As both of our kids were planned;
one like a 401k
and the other like a mutual fund,
our Catholic best friends strangely
would not believe such a thing
possible. An accountant’s mistake was
hardly plausible by computer algorithms
and double checkers, but pregnancies
were inevitable errors in judgement
by heathens, or examples of the Lord’s will.
The pill was not foolproof, immoral in their eyes,
and condoms failed like marriages.
They were silent strangers
when our ‘unplanned’
family unit collapsed like a house
swallowed up by a Florida sinkhole.
